The Northern Greene County Farmers' Market will held just off Highway 65, in Fair Grove, under the Wommack Mill pavilion, each Wednesday afternoon, from 3:30 to dusk, until daylight savings time, then we will be open till 7 p.m., open rain or shine.
Our starting date is April 30th, till October 8th. We are having the Growing with Kids Program. This will go until the end of June. This will be the 2nd year. The first week we will be handing out trees. Free to all kids that want to sign up. And then each week they will get seeds or a plant for their own garden, and we will have two Master Gardeners, Mr. and Mrs. Dowell, will be there to explain how to plant and grow their own garden. The Girl Scouts will be there to lend a helping hand to the Dowells. Also Jack Brooks will be doing a live demonstration with his honey bees. He will bring a live observation of bees. A must see for all ages. That date will be June 18, weather permitting.
Then in August, Deb's gourds will be doing her Gourd Day with the kids, where all the kids get to paint their own gourd birdhouse to take home. Watch for the date.
Steve VanBenthusen, a woodworker, is bringing a blue birdhouse to demonstrate on how to assemble, and then each child that is signed up will get to do their own to take home. Yes, this is all free for the kids. So check with the market each week for the upcoming events and dates.
This is the ninth year for the Fair Grove Farmer's Market. Expect ten or more vendors to start out the season, with the following planning to return in season:
- Pates Orchard
His peaches are always a big favorite when in season
- Berry Patch
Jim and CC with their homemade pies, jams, jellies and salsa
- Richard and Eli
Fresh garden vegetables
- Lynn Oatman
Whole wheat bread, sticky buns, cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls
- Jack Brooks
Honey and sweet corn in July
- Deb's Gourds
Bird houses and bowls and her famous cinnamon jelly
- Carter Meats
Fresh pork and beef.
We will have lots of different events for the market, so please check it out weekly. The cafe will be serving food from 4 p.m. till 6 p.m. every Wednesday.
We want to thank the Fair Grove community and all the businesses for the support and donations for our market. And the Fair Grove Historical Society for the use of the Wommack Mill pavilion and grounds.
The Wommack Mill also rents the pavilion for events, such as weddings, family reunions and so forth. The Wommack Mill, a Greene County and Missouri State historic site, was placed on the National Historic Register as Boegel and Hine Mill. Today it is the focal point of the Fair Grove Ice Cream Social, held each year on the third Saturday of July, and the Fair Grove Heritage Reunion, held each year on the last full weekend of September. It is also a very picturesque backdrop for numerous weddings, family reunions, picnics, meetings and for a quiet visit. 417-759-2807 And our Farmers' Market will have their own booth at the Reunion.
Our market managers are:
Jim and CC Gulick of the Berry Patch 1-800-983-9021
